Good Stories – Not Just Porn
Anybody familiar with Clips4Sale is likely to be familiar with your work. You’ve been a Top 50 and largely a Top 10 studio for a long time now. But for those who do not know you, could you explain a little about who you are, what you do and how you got into making fetish clips?
Missa : “We create story-based erotic videos. The roles are well thought-out and we strive to make our customers laugh, feel empathy, or think, not just masturbate, I want them to be entertained by video. I want to introduce them to character, and hope they dream about them well after the video is over. I work with like-minded actors who help evolve a character into someone who you might know in real life. “Oh, I used to know a manipulative woman like that,” or “that character behaves just like my my ex-girlfriend.” These characters almost always don’t reflect on who the actor is, they’re just stories, and we hope they’re good stories, not just porn.”
“My business started in 2012. I was selling clothing on e-Bay, some customers would ask to buy my used panties and offer way more money than I hoped to make on the clothing business, and so I started selling panties, and then they asked for custom erotic photos (with my face cropped out), then later on a masturbation video, and it snowballed faster into sex videos with my husband. I started selling custom videos to guys, mainly fetish, and that’s when I came across Clips4Sale for an easy way to expand my dirty little business. The clip customers wanted me to perform for their fetishes, and there were countless fetishes, from growing as tall as a skyscraper, to wearing a diaper, turning from a woman to an animal, or roleplaying I am having sex with my brother. I learned so much about the psychology behind each and every fetish, and got to know many of my customers as friends, not just customers. I never dreamt I would be a porn producer, but then it hit me when I saw a video I produced stolen on a tube site, right along with popular porn stars, “Oh. My. god. I am making porn, it’s real, it’s public. Anyone who has ever known me can now see me naked!” It was a shock because, however naive this sounds, I felt like I was helping individuals with “fetishes” that didn’t belong in porn, that I was working from home, and that my job was my own secret. I intended to be in and out of the fetish business when I graduated college, but the internet reaches far and wide, and it is forever. I decided that I would figure out how to monetize it, and start hiring actors to perform what I had learned.”
Art In Many Fetishes
I know that more recently your work has tended to move towards the taboo genre, but when I think of you and your studio I instantly think special effects. For me your Transformation clips really set the standard and defined what an ‘Amateur’ clip producer could achieve. Others now have taken up the cudgel and are achieving a greater success themselves by using more special effects and production in their clips. But what initially attracted you to make Transformation clips in the first place and is it a personal fetish of yours? Is it the creative freedom to do whatever you want? What was the attraction?
Missa : “Thank you! I can see a lot of the art in many fetishes without owning them myself. I know customers want to believe that their actress shares their fetish, but imagine if I had all the fetishes that I produce? I work to understand a customer’s fetishes by asking the customer questions, reading erotic stories, and trying my best to understand the psychology behind each genre’s kinks.”
“I received a transformation custom video request from a customer who wanted me to turn into a she wolf.. I read what the customer wanted, did a little bit of research, watched the movies he recommended, and tried my best. I had no skill but I tried my best, crawling around the floor and the sofa “rawrring,” with long nails black nails and some crude make-up on my face and chest. It felt silly, he was satisfied with it, but I knew I couldn’t earn more of his business without improving.”
Which apps/programs do you use to achieve the effects in your videos, and the editing process where you bring your clips together and add all these amazing effects, is that a self taught skill or do you have somebody do that for you?
Missa : “My husband and I bought editing programs and taught ourselves through youtube tutorials and researching at home. Learning special effects is like having a tool box, and everything new you learn, you can use as a brand new tool to improve your work. It’s a frustrating process but also very rewarding when you hit the right buttons for your customers. We stopped making transformation videos when I started hiring actors from Los Angeles. Their wage, flight and hotel expenses, did not produce a profit for us, especially considering the time we invested.
“The last six years the customers have paved our path in this erotic video business with their votes. Every time a person chooses a video, it’s like he is casting a vote for more of his favorite fetish genre to be made. Since 2012 the taboo customers keep voting for more videos to be made, and the genre doesn’t show signs of slowing down. I enjoy making taboo videos, but I’ll try new things, some hit, and the customers have not been shy about sharing their their fantasies with me.”
Better Each Year
Everybody has their own style. What are the fundamental qualities people will find when they watch one of your clips? Is there any one clip people should check out to get the perfect idea of what you do? And how do you think your work has improved and evolved since you started making clips back in 2012?
Missa : “I hope people would see improvement. We started with a $200 camcorder and my husband’s industrial light fixture that he used in his home remodeling business. My early work is unwatchable. Any video that I, personally, starred in was just me turning on the camera and “winging it.” I improved when I was forced to write scripts for the amateur models I began to hire. I had to write scripts and explain to them what the customer wanted, and the work began to look more organized.
“We’re getting better each year, but there isn’t a “perfect” clip. I hope they are all works that show our progress.
“I am most proud of the actors we hire, and showing me how they translate my characters with their own personal touch. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the most talented actors in the industry, my favorites (to name a few) are: Penny Pax, Kissa Sins, Adriana Chechik, Blair Williams, and Cherie Deville.”
As I mentioned earlier, you’ve been at the top of the Clips4Sale charts for some time now. And I know from a previous interview that you’re pretty modest about that achievement, but what do you think is the key to how you stay at the top?
Missa : “I’m not always at the top. I think you can’t concern yourself with ranking to have a peaceful mind. There isn’t a rank that can tell you who is the best and worst based on popularity and money earned. Picasso struggled his entire life and died impoverished, but he had passion. Be passionate, I try to remind myself this every day.
If, for example, the customers have chosen a path for you that you’re not passionate about, can you find passion within the work? Is there a spark there that they see and you don’t? You can try your very best and push yourself to do even better with each video piece. You will win some and lose, and the videos that lose might mean that they don’t appeal to this particular portion of the erotic-video audience, but if you are relentless and passionate then you can survive in this volatile industry.”
I notice that you seem to appear less in your clips these days, in favor of using other models. Old school Missa fans might be a little disappointed with that (raises hand), but I assume that was a conscious decision on your part? Is directing others something you prefer to actually appearing in the clips yourself, what is the reasoning behind it? Can fans still request Missa to appear in their custom vids? And on that note, do you ever attend any industry events where fans can possibly come and meet you?
Missa : “Oh, thank you! It feels good to be missed. The honest truth is that I was never fully comfortable being nude, or having sex in videos. I can pretend it’s just me and you, the customer, when the camera turns on, but the ugly truth is that it’s not just us, the internet is a massive place. The exposure is scary for an introvert, and had I the money to hire performers from the get-go I would have. I’m an introvert. I don’t like large groups of people, I prefer to really know a few people, and keep them close to me, and I’m modest, honestly, I even wear a bikini when I go out on the lake.
“It’s in our future to buy a booth at Exotica or AVN and have some of our favorite actresses join us to meet the fans, but I’ll likely be standing behind them with my hair pulled up in my most professional outfit, listening more than interacting.”
Slow Building Seduction
This month’s Monthly Fetish Magazine issue is all about Special Effects and Transformation fetish. Are there any movies, sexual or otherwise that provided you the inspiration to do what you do or that you particularly appreciate, and any that you’d recommend?
Missa :“Transformation fans will love “An American Werewolf in London.” Whether you want to learn about transformation or any fetish, you have to remember it’s always about the process.
“I really love old romance books from Emily Bronte and Jane Austen, they understood process. In the Victorian era, you were forced to find eroticism with small gestures, maybe even within a look. Love letters were subtle and the words carefully chosen to be tasteful, and touching a man’s hands while he escorts you to dance was electric. I want to portray slow building seduction like that in my stories.
“I want to see every inch of a woman’s body when she reveals herself to her lover, whomever he is in the story (probably a taboo story), every inch of her flesh is a special gift, just for him. I hope the customers feel the tension that I love, and reminisce back when they were eighteen, and remember the power of a woman’s look, a touch of her fingertip, the agony of not knowing if she wants you, and the whole dance of the buildup that gives you an explosion, where you can feel it in of your senses, when you finally get to enter her.”
A Myriad of Fetishes
Where do you see yourself and your studio going over the next few years? Will special effects continue to feature in what you do? Will your work continue to evolve or are you happy to continue doing exactly what you are doing right now?
Missa : “I’m creating a Lesbian site, AllHerLuv.com, and the content will be on Clips4sale. My customers have asked me for girl/girl content for a while, and I need a new outlet to separate the two, very different genres.I listen to my customers, and when they keep telling me they want more G/G work, I want to give it to them. AllHerLuv videos will be story-based across a myriad of fetishes, some of which I think will be new to many G/G fans. MissaX.com is like a playhouse, but with sex, and AllHerLuv will be the same, except no penises, real ones anyway.
“Special effects still play a part in my stories. I will be releasing a video with Kissa Sins, where she falls on her knees before God to beg him not to curse her for her sinful lesbian thoughts. The sky turns black, lighting clashes in the dark clouds, and it begins to storm. This is all using what I have learned in the past from my transformation work. I will continue to evolve, absolutely, I don’t think the customers would stand for the same old, same old.”
Thanks for taking part in this interview Missa. We sure look forward to seeing your new material and Transformation fans who have been unfamiliar with your work until now will surely have a great time checking out all your awesome back catalog.
